If a business produces or stores hazardous waste, or has it removed from their premises then they must do the following:

1. Classify the waste to check if it is actually hazardous.

2. Separate out non-hazardous waste and store the hazardous waste separately and safely.

3. Use approved waste disposal carriers to collect, recycle or dispose of the hazardous waste.

4. Fill in the relevant parts of the consignment note– keep one copy and give two copies to the waste carrier.

5. Keep records (known as a ‘register’) for 3 years at the waste originating premises.
