The disintegration, often in a pock marked fashion, of a turfgrass surface, especially due to the impact of a cricket ball with a prepared surface.

A well-prepared cricket pitch, which has a suitable soil foundation and structure, should not generally suffer from minefielding during the course of a game.

However, reuse of a pitch for several games, especially during dry and hot weather could contribute to this effect developing.

This term and outcome can be used as a performance standard for a cricket pitch.
