Pineappleweed

Erect, or low growing where routinely trodden on, annual with fine branched leaves, which can occur on newly sown areas, compacted, worn areas of renovated winter games pitches which have been neglected over the summer period, and very neglected lawns. In routinely maintained turf surfaces this will not be able to get established and is therefore uncommon in these areas. Its old name was Rayless Mayweed due to the lack of white petals (ray florets), unlike the similar Scentless Mayweed and Chamomile species. It is also called Pineapple Mayweed. It grows in dry to moist situations, especially loamy soils and will adapt to a wide range of soil pH levels, although it requires open and not shaded situations. It flowers from May to October, having green-yellow coloured flowers (disc florets) up to about 10mm in diameter. Its scientific name is Matricaria discoidea.
