Red Clover

A common perennial weed of lesser maintained and neglected turf surfaces. It has trifoliate elliptical type leaves (typically 10mm-30mm in length and 10-13mm in width), with a white chevron marking on. It has a stem with hairs and a prominent tap root. It will grow on a wide range of soils, especially moist to dry ones, but not very acid soils, and prefers open non-shaded conditions. It flowers from May to September, having dark pink flowers with white streaks. Its scientific name is Trifolium pratense.
