Any tool, including machinery, which is used for work activities.

This term is formally defined in the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 Regulation 2 (1) as “any machinery, appliance, apparatus, tool or installation for use at work (whether exclusively or not)”.

In practice and for groundskeepers this can mean anything from a tractor operated mower, an irrigation tank, a hand pushed line marker, to what is considered a basic item such as a hand fork.
