The quantity of goods produced per worker. The goods might be physical items, or the value of items produced or sold. This is a general measure of the efficiency of workers and work processes, however, it is not a measure of the quality of the product.

In the context of grounds management, productivity can mean the surface provided (whether a sports pitch or ground area in m²) per worker.

This can be broadened further to provide a more comprehensive definition to be 'The surface provided (whether a sports pitch or ground area in m²) per worker, in an effective way'. The use of performance standards (e.g. PQS) are an objective measure of effectiveness, whilst time management analysis can measure the efficiency as well as effectiveness of work activities (when related to defined performance standards).

An additional characteristic could include that of sustainability, which can be a composite measure incorporating environmental, economic and social factors and indicators, as these influence, for example, organisational reputation, charging policy and customer retention, all of which might be seen to essentially endorse, or otherwise, the effectiveness and efficiency of work activities and the product.
