Ley

An area of land on which plants are grown that provide a good green coverage, especially grass and clover, and which is used as part of managing the rotation of arable crops. The green vegetation is eventually ploughed back into the soil, recycling a range of nutrients.
There are different types of ley, including:
• Long term ley or Grazing ley, which might last for 5-years.
• Medium term ley, used for cutting for hay and grazing, lasting about 3 years.
• Short term ley, for increasing yields to dairy products, lasting about 1-year.
