A fertiliser which releases its nutrients slowly. This term can apply to a natural organic, an inorganic or a controlled release fertiliser. Typically, the term slow-release would apply to fertilisers which are decomposed by microbial activity, such as urea-formaldehyde products, whilst synthetically coated products are typically referred to as controlled-release fertilisers, rather than slow-release fertilisers.
