The time between making an order and its delivery, or the time between the start and completion of a process. For example: Knowing the lead time of an item of machinery is especially important, especially if it has to be imported from a long distance. The lead time for a sports pitch to be made playable when drainage works are to be installed might for example be 2-months, but clearly this will depend on the current condition, the extent of works and quality of desired finish prior to play.
