A time management technique which involves the breaking up of large tasks, especially project work, into smaller elements. This allows the work to be more manageable and planning schedule to be more effective because a better understanding can be gauged from the detail of the task. A grounds management work programme is an example of chunking. The different maintenance activities can be spaced out and sequenced correctly, allowing a grounds manager to better understand how the required outcomes, for example the standard of a sports pitch, can best be achieved.
