A perennial weed of neglected turfgrass surfaces, especially domestic lawns. Its scientific name is Pilosella aurantiaca; previously being called Hieracium aurantiaca.

It is very similar to Mouse-ear-hawkweed, having a rosette arrangement of leaves, each with a light-coloured underside and is also lightly covered in hairs.

It spreads by stolons, being present on soft, thatchy and mossy turf, but with free draining soil underneath.

It prefers open and not shaded situations.

It flowers from June to July, or later, with the flowers being in a cluster and orange in colour, being about 20mm in diameter. This weed is also known as Fox-and-cubs.
