Developing Skills to meet Expectations

There are numerous reasons why skill development, which is often an ongoing continuous process, is an important part of being able to meet expectations, especially organisational expectations.
Skill development will typically result in an improvement in the efficiency and effectiveness of an individual. This would contribute to making an organisation more successful through increased productivity, reduced costs and increased quality of product or service. So, there is clearly an organisational interest in developing the skills of their employees.
Other reasons can include the following:
• Self-improvement will often lead to maintaining and improving an individual’s motivation to continue to engage with and improve in their job role, as well as in developing their ability to progress further within their chosen career.
• An increase in confidence and capability to not just continually meet expectations, but sometimes exceed these.
• Achieving outcomes, which can often mean performance targets within an organisation, will reflect positively on an individual. This can often lead to praise, or rewards, as well as further opportunities for progression or having ideas more readily accepted and taken on-board by other employees.
• Helping to build trust and credibility within the organisation as well as outside of it with peers within the industry. This can lead to an individual or organisation being seen as more reliable and potentially the go to person or organisation for advice and guidance.
• Creating a more positive environment which can benefit team interactions and understanding of the needs of team members. A positive attitude, where expressed outside of the organisation, helps to promote the organisation, potentially making it more attractive to potential employees and clients, contributing to the success and growth of the organisation.
