Bowling Green Maintenance: 36. Total Input Hours per Month advert image shown if present

Image shown for entry if relevant and present

There are many variables which influence the actual, in contrast to the planned, work which are needed to produce a bowling green to a desired standard on a regular basis and in a cost-effective and resource effective way. The following images and data illustrate one, of potentially many, interpretations of the guide maintenance schedule given above.

The figures are not the same as those given in the example quarterly maintenance plans because this is a different example of what could be required for different bowling green. The purpose is to emphasise a key point that any maintenance plans are just guides and there will always be variance for specific greens from any guide produced by any source.

Bowling green monthly inputs chart

Maintenance inputs (example 2):
• Total planned annual hours = 447.83.
• Average hours per month = 37.32.
• Maximum hours in any month: 82.17.

Labour costs (example 2):
• Based on £18.00 per hour.
• Total labour costs = £8,060.94.

The use of volunteer labour can save on significant input costs, although materials and equipment maintenance, repair and purchase can still contribute other significant costs for the maintenance of a green.

Seasonal data:
• Season length in weeks = 24.
• Maintenance cost (labour only) per week of playing season = £335.87
(All annual maintenance costs apportioned into this playing period).
