Module 4:

Materials

4.6 Module summary & recall

4.6.1 Module summary

1   We have identified quite a wide range of different materials that can be used in the maintenance of a football pitch.

We have looked at what each material type is used for, providing a range of practical examples.

2   Selecting the right material for your own situation can sometimes be quite challenging, but by determining if it is an essential or desirable material can help to influence the necessary budget needed in looking after a pitch of a defined quality.

Using materials at the right time of year will significantly influence how effective they are, but just as important is taking into account suitable ground and prevailing weather conditions when considering the use of materials.

3   One particularly challenging part of this module will probably have been that of calculating quantities of a material needed for pitch maintenance. We provided a typical scenario that might be encountered by a groundskeeper in managing a pitch, along with supporting help in how to calculate the correct answer, for each material.

Materials cost money, so the final learning section identified a range of typical costs that might be incurred for each of the example materials that were covered.

4   Now that you have completed this module you have a good opportunity to find out how much effective learning has taken place.

Have a go at the next section, which is 'Module recall'. This has just 12 multiple choice questions to help you in your learning journey. Good luck.
