Module 8:

Planning the work

8.2 Planning the usage schedule

8.2.3 Example planned usage (continued)

1   Approach A

For this example, we will also assume that the minimum pitch quality and playing performance of grade 3 is to be maintained throughout the entire playing season.

There is no right or wrong way to either approach, so long as it is clearly communicated to users about the expected pitch quality and performance during the playing season.

Approach A to managing usage and pitch quality

2   Approach B

If we adapt the example to incorporate dynamic pitch management where the minimum pitch quality and playing performance of grade 3 is to be maintained from August to the end of December, with the managed reduction in quality to grade 2 being permitted from January onwards, we can see that additional planned games can be allowed for.

This type of planned and managed scenario might be needed where more games are required from the pitch, in this example an extra 20 games overall. This second approach would provide for 74 games at grade 3 and 46 games at grade 2. An extra 10 games could therefore be accommodated at grade 3 during the August to December period because extra deterioration of the pitch is planned, with pitch quality grade being reduced to grade 2 for the January to April period of the playing season.
