An inorganic source of potassium, having the chemical formula of KCl, which is prone to absorbing water and making it unsuitable for use as a straight fertiliser, although it can be used within mixtures or compounds. It is also commonly called Muriate of Potash and can have various grades, with a high-grade containing 50% potassium (60% potash, i.e. K2O), with up to about 4% impurities, with this often being sodium chloride, or a lower grade with 42% potassium (50% potash), but with a higher percentages of impurities, which would make this lower grade unsuitable for turfgrass surfaces.
