Module 2:

Pitch quality

2.5 Module summary & recall

2.5.1 Summary

1   We have covered a lot in this module on performance standards and overall pitch quality.

This has provided a solid foundation in enabling a groundskeeper to better understand how to objectively measure their product.

It has also provided insight into the importance of defining what is needed in the first instance before carrying out a range of maintenance activities, along with expensive materials, much of which might not be needed to achieve your desired and objectively defined pitch.

So, define your requirements using performance standards, pitch quality grades and monitor regularly to help maintain and mange a pitch effectively and efficiently.

2   Where performance standards are used in a dynamic and positive way then they will be found to help reduce waste and unnecessary expenditure.

Determining a suitable weighted system for pitch analysis can be challenging and can often be addressed by engaging a range of stakeholders to arrive at values that have the buy-in from everyone concerned.

The term carrying capacity was introduced and this is a key concept which should also underpin the maintenance and management, including realistic usage capabilities, of a football pitch.

3   Now that you have completed this module you have a good opportunity to find out how much effective learning has taken place.

Have a go at the next section, which is 'Module recall'. This has just 12 multiple choice questions to help you in your learning journey. Good luck.
