1 What is a hazard?
This is anything that can harm or injure you or others when doing the activity you are checking as part of the risk assessment.
Can you think of at least two things, when carrying out mowing using a ride-on or tractor operated rotary mower, which might be classed as a hazard?

- Collision.
- Contact with fuel, oil, grease and other liquids.
- Electric shock.
- Excessive noise.
- Excessive vibration.
- Explosion, inhaling fumes.

- Incorrect maintenance.
- Items thrown from mower.
- Lone working.
- Manual handling.
- Moving parts.
- Overturning.
- Sharp objects, biohazards.
- Unauthorised use.
- Unsafe operating tractor / ride-on.
