7.1 The importance of acting responsibly

7.1.1 Introduction

1   There are three major reasons why it is important to be responsible when using equipment and material: In this context we will say that responsible use if safe and efficient use.

We can use the acronym of PIE, meaning Pollution, Injury, Efficiency, to help remember the key reasons.

In a short sentence this means, don’t pollute the environment, don’t get injured, and don’t be wasteful.

2   Let’s add a little more meaning to these terms.

But before we do let’s set the scene with a question on relevant legislation.

What is the name of the major legislation that identifies the duties of employers and employees?
