2.2.4 Desirable grass species
Some grass species have been found through research and experience to be a lot more durable and suitable for different sports surfaces.
A desired grass is, or grasses are, the best one/s that we would want for a football pitch. In the UK and for the majority of cases, but not all, the desired grass species will be Perennial Ryegrass.

Consider the following question:
1. If you are able to identify this grass (Perennial Ryegrass) then how much of the total area of your pitch do you think it consists of?
Assessing desirable grass species cover
Count the number of grids within the quadrat that have desirable grass species present. Each square represents 1% of the total.
For each location throw the quadrat in 3 different positions and record each value.
