3.3 When are they carried out?

3.3.1 Introduction

1   The time of year when the different activities are typically carried out can vary depending on a number of factors.

These can include the geographic location of the pitch, the start and end of the playing season and whether any end of season activities, such as events will take place on a pitch before major renovations commence.

Pitch quality has a significant influence on the intensity of activities as well as more specialist activities are carried out. These can especially include whether enhanced or supplementary equipment is used, for example lighting or undersoil heating, although that is primarily limited to elite and professional pitches only.

2   The times, including prevailing conditions, of the year when the maintenance activities are typically carried out are as follows. However, do bear in mind that for some pitch surfaces maintenance will no doubt be carried out at other times, primarily due to the various factors we have already mentioned.
