5.2.12 Mowing
Mowing a football pitch to a very low height might sometimes be carried out so that it takes longer to regrow and need cutting again.
This is not good practice and which one of the following outcomes will typically result from mowing like this?
The grass would be too long; the ball wouldn’t roll or bounce very well; the players wouldn’t be able to control the ball as well; the sward will thin and be more open; the pitch will wear out more quickly; there will most likely be more weeds and undesirable grasses; there will be more seed heads on the pitch and with seed setting some grass will die off; pitch lines won’t be visible, or only to a very short distance.
Players would not be able to demonstrate their skills very well, leading to complaints and where appropriate potentially moving to another pitch provider, resulting in loss of revenue.
