Module 5:

Making connections

5.3 Providing insight into activities

5.3.1 Introduction

1   For this part of the module we are building on previous learning within this course and are now wanting to emphasise the interconnections and influences the activities might have on performance standards.

Activity:  Try and think about two or three major or significant reasons for each maintenance activity that we have previously identified [we have included our core list below].

Insight

We have used the words ‘major’ or ‘significant’ rather than main because often there often isn’t a single main reason but several interconnected reasons, all of which can be just as important as each other.

In addition, one ‘major’ or ‘significant’ reason can also vary depending on the context being discussed and the prevailing condition of the pitch. Anyway, let’s not get too hung up on an exact definition here.

2   As we have just mentioned, there will often be several reasons, but that does not matter for now. We just want you to think about two of these reasons, but if you can think of others then also make a note of those, but this isn’t necessary for this part of the course.

We have provided four ‘major’ or ‘significant’ reasons for each of the activities. This doesn’t mean they are the four most important, but just four that are within the often many that can often make up a comprehensive list of reasons.

Various playing quality features have also been given within the reasons, although all activities have a contributory impact on the playing quality of, and experience obtained from, the pitch.
