Module 3:

Maintenance activities

3.3 When are they carried out?

3.3.14 Post-match repairs

Which one of the following statements best describes when a pre-match safety check is supposed to be carried out?

In practice this can vary quite significantly. After each game or training session the pitch might be checked and if any repairs are needed then the relevant work will typically be carried out.

Depending on the standard of pitch, resources, and when the next game is scheduled for use, then any repair work might typically be carried out fairly soon after each game or maybe up to two days after a game.

Where several games are played over a weekend on pitches hosting grassroot clubs then any repair work might not commence until the Monday or Tuesday, depending on the contractual, or other, requirements for the pitches by the organisation maintaining them.

Ideally repair work will be carried fairly promptly as this aids pitch recovery. However, there is often a discrepancy between an ideal situation and what is achieved in practice.
