Module 5:

Making connections

5.2 Not doing an activity

5.2.2 Aerating / Forking

A lack of aeration will typically result in which one of the following outcomes?

Not aerating

Grass rooting would be poor, and divots would increase. The sward would not be as hard wearing, with an increase in the speed at which thin and bare patches appear, leading to an increase in weed grasses and weed content.

The likelihood of disease attack would also increase. Playing quality will continue to decline with negative comments from players and managers / coaches becoming a common occurrence.

Irrigation would not infiltrate into the surface very well, fertiliser would not wash into the surface very well and might run-off, which can be a waste of the applied fertiliser and also potentially contribute to the pollution of any nearby water courses.
