Module 5:

Making connections

5.2 Not doing an activity

5.2.8 Chain harrowing - Tines down

Chain-harrowing with tines points downwards is not a common activity because it is often substituted by other activities such as scarification or raking.
However, missing out on it when other similar activities are also not carried out at renovation time can often result in which one of the following?

Chain harrow

Where this, raking or scarification is not carried out this basic but cheap activity will result in build-up of organic matter on the surface layer, with the pitch wearing more quickly, resulting in an increased likelihood of disease attack.

Where it is also ignored at renovation time then a suitable seed bed will not be produced, reducing the effectiveness of other activities undertaken during the renovation process.
