Deep spiker or linear aerator; or compressed air equipment.

Typically, tractor powered for heavy duty decompaction equipment, so most likely diesel is required.

Some reasons for decompaction

1. To encourage good root growth, especially by reducing compaction (i.e. soil profile density), which will also result in improved traction for players.
2. To encourage better drainage to reduce waterlogging / surface water retention.
3. To reduce match cancellations and increase pitch playability.
4. To reduce pitch hardness and to make ball rebound bounce more consistent.
