Which one of the following statements best describes the time of year that surface removal would typically take place?
If surface removal is to take place then this would typically be at the end of the playing season, which would typically be May time. For some pitches the last game might be in April, whilst for others it might even stretch to early June. This usually allows just enough time during typically good growth periods to get the pitch ready for the coming season.
Surface removal is not an activity that is undertaken for the majority of pitches. A renovation programme based around decompaction and heavy scarification would be more practical for the majority of Grade 2 or grassroots type pitches. Encouraging continued development of mature grasses rather than totally removing the surface and starting afresh would typically be a more appropriate course of action for many clubs on limited budgets.
