Which one of the following options is the most significant reason for carrying out surface removal at renovation time?

Some reasons for surface removal

1. Thin out or remove unwanted surface vegetation and/or underlying thatch and undesirable organic matter build-up.
2. Remove contaminated, unsuitable surface soil layer, to about 50mm depth.
3. Provide a clean foundation layer ready for subsequent other renovation work, for example, seeding or top-dressing applications.
4. To improve the quality of the surface which can, potentially, be produced.
